D.A.R.E.

Alex graduated from the DARE program at Windridge Elementary!  The DARE program teaches kids about how to stop bullying, how to say no to drugs and learn about their harmful effects, and cyber safety.  They even had homework with the family and had to write an essay!  Congratulations, Alex!

Alice in Wonderland

Farmington Youth Theater produced the musical, "Alice in Wonderland."  Alex played a red lobster and a cardsman for the Queen of Hearts.  He did a great job.  He amazes me in how quickly he memorizes lines and learns dance steps!

Alex's ordination

Today Alex became a deacon and received the Aaronic Priesthood!  He was very excited.  We were so happy that some extended family could come be with us at this special time!  I wish I would have had my brain working enough to remember to get a picture of the men who stood in the circle, but I failed in that respect.
 Girl time!
A rousing game on the Wii?!?
Kimbal's favorite toy is the Mickey Mouse car.
 Deep manly discussion
 We learned a new game!

Alex has a party

When the kids turn 12, they get a friend party.  We took Alex and his friends to the rec center in Bountiful to swim and then came home for cake and ice cream.  It was a very snowy day with bad roads which totally made me nervous!  He has lots of good friends!

Alex turns 12!

Alex was very excited for his 12th birthday.  He was excited to graduate from Primary and become a deacon.  He was looking forward to collecting fast offerings and passing the sacrament.  He was beaming when he was able to pass the sacrament to us his first time.  He has accepted more responsibility at home and works a little bit harder on his homework.  He has even stopped complaining most of the time when I tell him he has homework to do or practicing the piano or reading.  His favorite thing to do is play Minecraft on the computer.  He also enjoys hanging out with his friends.  He's a good kid.

Halloween

Halloween just isn't the same with bigger kids.  We waited until Halloween to carve our pumpkins and finished just in time for Alex to change his mind and go out with his friends.  He wasn't going to go trick-or-treating.  We grabbed an old costume and didn't even get a good picture of him in it.  He went out a little while and came back to change into a ninja costume because the costume of the snake wrapped around his neck wasn't cool enough.  Alecia went to a party, and I stayed home to hand out candy.  I don't necessarily like Halloween, but the neighborhood kids kept me busy answering the door.

Spooky Class Project

Alex's 6th grade class got to make some pretty spooktacular haunted houses.

Aunt Sylvia

Sylvia Zina Anderson Garner left this world the morning of Oct. 28, 2011, just one month shy of her 63rd birthday, after her body could no longer fight against leukemia. Although she did not want to leave her family and would have chosen to stay if she could have, she was anxious to move on and get back to work for her Heavenly Father.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 4, 2011, at the LDS Stake Center, 980 W. Central Road, Emmett. Interment will follow at the Bramwell Cemetery. Services are under the direction of the Potter Funeral Chapel in Emmett.

Sylvia was born on Nov. 28, 1948, to Lynn and Rosamond Anderson. She enjoyed life on the farm and always lived faithful to the values of hard work and tenacity that she learned as a child. She grew up in Weiser, Idaho, and enjoyed school, especially Sunnyside Elementary where she played hard and enjoyed mischief just as much as the next kid. She loved sports, especially baseball, and was famous (at least to her children) for hitting home runs. Sylvia also had many fond memories of playing in the Weiser High School Band, including a trip to Portland to march in the Rose Bowl Parade. Her grandchildren enjoy the picture of her marching at Bronco Stadium in Boise before the turf was blue!

Sylvia was an exemplary student, always very conscientious, and was awarded the honor of valedictorian when she graduated from Weiser in 1967. She then earned her associates degree in Elementary Education from Rick's College and soon after married Clyde Lee Garner (who persevered until she finally said 'yes') in the Idaho Falls Temple on May 20, 1969. Their first few years of marriage were spent in several different places - California, Weiser, Kentucky, Germany and Kuna - as Clyde was on active duty in the Army. They finally settled in Emmett in 1975 where they raised their eight children on home-grown vegetables and the love of the Lord.

Always active in her children's lives, Sylvia served for many years in the Hanna-Letha PTO (where she enjoyed being treasurer the best). She was a proud fan of the Huskies and attended many Emmett High School volleyball and wrestling matches and football and basketball games and she and Clyde helped out at many, many cross-country and track meets. When her children were all in school, she began working at the schools as an aide, and she eventually became librarian when Shadow Butte Elementary was built.

Throughout her entire life, Sylvia actively served in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in whatever capacity she was called. This included many years as Cub Den Leader, as she helped her boys through Scouts, as well as serving as a counselor in Relief Society and Primary Presidencies. She sang in the choir and played the organ.

Sylvia is preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her six brothers and sisters and their spouses, Linda and Allen Jorgensen, Loretta and Reed Dunbar, Marc and Janette Anderson, Ned and Jan Anderson, Bruce and Nita Anderson and Kim Anderson; as well as her husband, Clyde; and their six daughters, two sons and 23 (soon to be 24) grandchildren, Zina and Todd Branch and their children, Shelai, Heidi, Kyra and Dylan; Cy and Amie Garner and their children, Lydia, Shawn, Braden and Skyler; Tena and Britton Holdaway and their children, Alexis and Gavin; Ammon and Heather Garner and their children Abigail and Nathan; Sara and Patrick Laney and their children, Austin, Brendan, Dalton, Wyatt and Ridge; Rose and Michael Rowley and their children, Aiden, Taya and Cael; Robin and Nathan Madenford and their children, Tyler, Chris and Rebecca; and Marla and Bryson Johnson and their baby-to-be.
