Aunt Sylvia

Sylvia Zina Anderson Garner left this world the morning of Oct. 28, 2011, just one month shy of her 63rd birthday, after her body could no longer fight against leukemia. Although she did not want to leave her family and would have chosen to stay if she could have, she was anxious to move on and get back to work for her Heavenly Father.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 4, 2011, at the LDS Stake Center, 980 W. Central Road, Emmett. Interment will follow at the Bramwell Cemetery. Services are under the direction of the Potter Funeral Chapel in Emmett.

Sylvia was born on Nov. 28, 1948, to Lynn and Rosamond Anderson. She enjoyed life on the farm and always lived faithful to the values of hard work and tenacity that she learned as a child. She grew up in Weiser, Idaho, and enjoyed school, especially Sunnyside Elementary where she played hard and enjoyed mischief just as much as the next kid. She loved sports, especially baseball, and was famous (at least to her children) for hitting home runs. Sylvia also had many fond memories of playing in the Weiser High School Band, including a trip to Portland to march in the Rose Bowl Parade. Her grandchildren enjoy the picture of her marching at Bronco Stadium in Boise before the turf was blue!

Sylvia was an exemplary student, always very conscientious, and was awarded the honor of valedictorian when she graduated from Weiser in 1967. She then earned her associates degree in Elementary Education from Rick's College and soon after married Clyde Lee Garner (who persevered until she finally said 'yes') in the Idaho Falls Temple on May 20, 1969. Their first few years of marriage were spent in several different places - California, Weiser, Kentucky, Germany and Kuna - as Clyde was on active duty in the Army. They finally settled in Emmett in 1975 where they raised their eight children on home-grown vegetables and the love of the Lord.

Always active in her children's lives, Sylvia served for many years in the Hanna-Letha PTO (where she enjoyed being treasurer the best). She was a proud fan of the Huskies and attended many Emmett High School volleyball and wrestling matches and football and basketball games and she and Clyde helped out at many, many cross-country and track meets. When her children were all in school, she began working at the schools as an aide, and she eventually became librarian when Shadow Butte Elementary was built.

Throughout her entire life, Sylvia actively served in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in whatever capacity she was called. This included many years as Cub Den Leader, as she helped her boys through Scouts, as well as serving as a counselor in Relief Society and Primary Presidencies. She sang in the choir and played the organ.

Sylvia is preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her six brothers and sisters and their spouses, Linda and Allen Jorgensen, Loretta and Reed Dunbar, Marc and Janette Anderson, Ned and Jan Anderson, Bruce and Nita Anderson and Kim Anderson; as well as her husband, Clyde; and their six daughters, two sons and 23 (soon to be 24) grandchildren, Zina and Todd Branch and their children, Shelai, Heidi, Kyra and Dylan; Cy and Amie Garner and their children, Lydia, Shawn, Braden and Skyler; Tena and Britton Holdaway and their children, Alexis and Gavin; Ammon and Heather Garner and their children Abigail and Nathan; Sara and Patrick Laney and their children, Austin, Brendan, Dalton, Wyatt and Ridge; Rose and Michael Rowley and their children, Aiden, Taya and Cael; Robin and Nathan Madenford and their children, Tyler, Chris and Rebecca; and Marla and Bryson Johnson and their baby-to-be.
