Will you go to prom with me?

Karl asked a girl from his band to prom. She answered him with this bouquet of balloons.

Karl was at a birthday party when it was delivered. I called him and told him he had a message on the front porch. When he told his friends, they said, "Ooo, you have a 'yes' answer." They all walked him home and watched him pop the balloons to find his answer. The answer was something like, "I would love to 'float' away with you to prom." It was cute.

Alecia is 14!

My little Alecia is now 14 and wearing makeup. Her birthday was so busy we didn't even have a cake for her. There wasn't a time when the whole family was together on her birthday. Most of the busyness was on her part with clarinet sectionals before school, homework, clogging, basketball, etc. I hope she felt special on her day. I know her friends and teachers remembered her. That girl raked in the candy!

Karl turns 16!

My little boy turned 16 last month. It's hard to believe Karl is dating age! I threw a surprise party for him, but he found out about it the night before. Stinker!

Engaged!

Kayla has announced her engagement to Patrick Martin. They are planning to be married on May 23, 2009. We went dress shopping on Saturday and found her wedding dress at the first shop we went to. We also went looking at dresses for bridesmaids. We found some fabric and a pattern. I thought I would try the pattern on some practice material before I attempted the actual dress. Alecia volunteered to try it on and wear it. Who couldn't use a new dress?

Basketball misery

Bill's only form of exercise at this time is playing ward basketball. Every season he is injured. Frankly, I'm tired of the injuries. He has hurt his ankle, his pinkie finger, his thumb, dislocated his ring finger (now he can't wear his wedding ring), and (last week) pulled his calf muscle. I told him not to play on Wednesday night, but he won't listen to me. He said he would be careful. He came home with bruised ribs, and I saw him wrapping his ribs this morning before going to work. Will he ever learn? Pretty soon he will be in a body cast. He will still want to play basketball because "we have a good team this year." Men.

Science Fair part 2

Karl participated in the district science fair. He was awarded honorable mention. Because he was the only one who did a computer science project, he moves on to regionals. Intel also awarded him $200.

Science Fair

Karl participated in a school-wide science fair. His project was to program a decision-making program on the computer. His Grandpa Southwick made up the program years ago, but it needed updating for today's technology. Karl has been studying computer languages and took on the project. He had to test it out on people to see if they were more confident with their decisions after using the program. Overall they were. At the school he won best in show--the only thing they awarded! He now advances to districts.

You all know Karl rarely shows emotion. When he finished his program and it actually worked, he was bouncing off the walls with happiness. If he would have been alone in the house, I'm sure he would have done a happy dance. He makes me laugh. We are very proud of him and the hard things he accomplishes.

DI thrives

Bill and I had some things to drop off at the DI before Christmas. They recently opened a new one in Layton. We pulled in and had to wait in this line! There are about 5-6 cars ahead of us in both lanes. I guess everyone was cleaning out the old to prepare for the new.
